I'm Tired

I'm Tired...

of

taking 200 supplements every day

detoxing my body 4 times each day

eating only a special restrictive diet

that my wife, Cindy, does an incredible job making taste delicious

but

has eliminated from my diet

juicy hamburgers

Papa Murphy's pizza

BBQ ribs

an IPA

Bailey's Irish Cream milkshakes

donuts

eating out (try finding a restaurant that has totally organic, vegetarian, whole grain, no sugar menu items)

you will be looking in vain...or surprise me:)

you get the idea!

I'm tired...

of having absolutely no energy

of not being able to attend church because it would wipe me out for the rest of the week

of only being able to attend half of an event because I can't handle any more than that

of feeling yucky much of the time

of feeling like I'm getting worse, not better

my breathing worse than it used to be
(I will be going to the doctor again this week to see if my lungs need to be drained again)

I'm tired...

of doing this day after day after day

and not having any idea of whether things are better or worse:(
(none of the scans were able to detect the extent of my lung cancer, so there is no real point in getting another one)

I'm tired...

of fighting this Enemy Within - Cancer

Question:

When is it okay to quit fighting?

Not to hasten the dying process

But to increase the enjoyment of the remaining living process

I know, I know

A heavy, heavy question that breeds many more questions

Questions I wrestle with every day

As, in my tiredness, I live out this Cancer Journey.

This blog will come as a shock to many of you

Who think of me as a strong person

A fighter

Now you know the truth

I'm tired...

Thanks for listening and praying

  6. It is your decision as to when, and all of us that love and support you will honor your decision. If there is no way to realize anything positive I would go for the IPA and a cheeseburger my friend.

  9. Ru and Steve here!
Dave we are praying for you! And I know the fight in you is not gone because you keep searching for answers. Strength is not determined by being strong in the physical sense, but in the daily struggle for relevance. Those who love you are also strong in wanting to share your burdens, ease your suffering, and be there to remind you of how important you are to them. None of us know the future, we only have memories and the present moment. If we choose to commit to these moments, our life is well lived no matter what happens tomorrow. Rest when you need to. Hug often. Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. We will continue to ask God to give you wisdom in decisions for today and for as many tomorrow’s as he can possibly give you. We love you. ♥️

  11. As I allowed for my mind to listen to your words the lyrics of a song began to play in my mind... I feel they are fitting here...

I was there on the day that you were changed
You were scared and prepared for the heartbreak
Everything you knew faded out of view
    Stole a piece of you

If I could, oh, I would be a hero
Be the one who would take all the arrows
Save you from the pain, carry all the weight
But I know that you're brave

    Fight on, fighter
Don't let anyone steal your fire
    Fight on, fighter
The Spirit is alive inside ya, yeah

There's a part that you hold that you lock down
Let it breathe, give it wings, set it free now
Time to make ya walk, break the prison bars
    Show them who you are

    Fight on, fighter
Don't let anyone steal your fire
    Fight on, fighter
The Spirit is alive inside ya, yeah

Stronger than you than you ever thought
    I know you're stronger
    Braver than you were before
    You know you're braver

Oh, no, you don't have to be afraid
    Together we'll face it
So don't ever stop no matter what
    'Cause you're gonna make it

    Fight on, fighter
Don't let anyone steal your fire
    Fight on, fighter
The Spirit is alive inside ya, yeah
    Fight on, fighter
Don't let anyone steal your fire
    Fight on, fighter
The Spirit is alive inside ya, yeah

  12. I hate to hear this, Dave. Wish we could all take a little of your tired from you and help you bear it. You’ve taken on the burdens of so many, and so many would be eager to help you carry yours. I guess this is one of those times we run into the edge of our human limitation and are left to long for, to plea for, a greater love to break through than any of us have to offer. So I will continue to pray. I will pray for Jesus to give you his strength, and continue to pray that he heals you completely of this cancer. But in these times you cannot feel his power at work within you, I pray that you will feel his weakness at work within you—that you may evermore deeply “know Christ through the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings” (Phil. 3:10).

  13. My friend,

You have endured more than most of us can handle, and you have done it with courage and grace.

You are tired, and you should be. You are fighting an epic battle. The greatest warriors, the ones who singlehandedly turn the tide on the battlefield - the ones whose name become the subject line of legend-they don't have invincible strength. They don't waltz off the battlefield with energy to spare. The legends are legendary, they succeed where others cannot, because they expend every last ounce of energy, and then when there is seemingly nothing left, they tap an unseen reserve to go a little further, until they are barely standing, but no foe remains.

You have that unseen reserve-the Spirit of the living God, who has promised to never leave you or forsake you. Rest in him. Be strong and courageous, not because you are not weary, but because he is with you. And so are we.

We will keep banging on the door of heaven, praying for your strength and your healing.

  14. I watched my mother go with five years of strokes, and it was one HECK of a roller coaster ride. She went from walking with a walker to being in a wheelchair to being bedridden - a vegetable. She could not even operate her remote for the TV. Ultimately we will not live forever. ENJOY your life while you have it, to your fullest!! I have my own health issues, so I can somewhat relate to your experiences. I'm sending you my prayers!

  15. Every day is part of your journey. When we are weak then we are strong. God is using you to minister to us still, each and every day. Thank you for your transparency and honesty. You are loved and lifted up in prayer. Be strong and of good courage neither be thou dismayed for the Lord thy God is with you. He makes you lie down in green pastures. He leads beside still waters. He is our refuge and our strength. He is your refuge and strength.

  22. A verse mom had me memorize: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7 But the entire chapter is an encouragement. Dale and I are praying for you, Cindy and your entire family. --Nora

  23. Strong people become tired and weary; it is normal and expected. You and Jesus can decide when it’s okay to stop fighting - there is no right or wrong answer. I remember a friend saying when she was going through a life crisis that she cried out to God that she didn’t have the strength to reach out to God. She heard God give her permission to just stay where she was and God would cover her with protection and strength. Thank you that even in this struggle, you are teaching the rest of us what an honest struggle looks like. We love you and continue to pray for the battle of your mind and body.

  25. Dave, we're praying for you over here in Idaho. The Lord has strength for you in your weakness.

Tip from my times feeling like this with Lyme disease:
Rather than all or none giving up your diet, consider what a weekly or bi-weekly cheat meal can be that isn't too bad for you, & enjoy it wholeheartedly. Plan strategic exceptions w/ the support of your wife's input.

    Love, Caleb Bouma (Moscow ID)

  26. It is OK....
    ...to be tired
...to increase the enjoyment of the remaining living process
    ...to rest
    ...to share with your wife
...to know the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings
...to stop any treatment that is not helping
You...are more than OK. He delights in you.
