This is Cindy
taking a dictation from Dave...
This is a hard blog to post
Dying is not easy
But I want to be transparent in dying
as I was hoping to be in living.
We made it home to Washington
After a wonderful time with Jonathan
but a difficult time
We flew home yesterday
making it through the check out counter
where they weren't going to let us board
because we didn't have a back up battery
to the oxygen concentrator
which we were not told about.
Once on the plane
the Alaska flight attendants were wonderful
in providing extra oxygen when needed
As were our fellow passengers.
The descent was rough
But made it through with the extra oxygen.
Our son Jonathan went with us
helping us along the way
We couldn't have done it without him.
Our Friendster Melissa picked us up at the airport
and brought us home.
We are so thankful for so many friends who have offered
food, transportation and support
all along the way.
Thank you
Today is the day you hope would never come
Entering into Hospice
Makes dying a reality
But I want the reality of dying to be as transparent
as the fight for living
Dying is leaving loved ones
that you care so much about
Going through drawn out pain
that you wish you didn't have to
But in no way do I want it to diminish
the reality of the hope I have in Jesus
Of entering into eternity with Him
That death is not victorious
I have a rock solid hope in Jesus
Not just wishful thinking because
I am dying
but rooted in years of rock solid evidence
that He is who He says He is
and He will do what He says He will do
This might be my last blog
but Cindy will finish it for me.
It truly is day by day
Only God knows.
Dave
You are so, so loved and cherished, Dave. You have been a father to me and to so many others. My heart is breaking and I am clinging to Jesus that he is holding you close to his bossom as a parent cradling their child, and he will rock you into eternity. You are the best boss, friend, and pastor I have ever had.
ReplyDeleteI have followed your journey. I have prayed. I have been blessed by your blog. You have lived well! You have loved often. You are strong. Your testimony is clear. Praising God for you and Cindy. In Christ, Stacy
ReplyDeleteAll of our prayers are with you. Thank you for resting in Jesus and showing us compassion, even in the hardest fights, by pointing us to the Savior. Love, Chanel (Caulfield) Riggle
ReplyDeletePsalms 116:15
ReplyDeleteYou are "precious" to Him!
Dave,
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine the strength Cindy has writing this update for you. You have been an amazing inspiration and a father to so many of who will leave big shoes to fill. We love you and will forever live in our hearts.
So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; and it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
We are thankful, beyond words and with FULL hearts for you, and the ways you have always pointed our lives towards Jesus. We love you, and will pray for peace and rest for you, and for Jesus to be very near to your family. What a glorious hope we have, to know that death is only a brief passing, before we witness with new eyes our Savior!
ReplyDeleteWe are praying for you all! You are well-loved and have been a good and faithful follower of Jesus. It is no surprise that he is calling you home, but we all wish we had one more day, week, month, year. But you have taught us God’s Word and His precepts. You have earned many jewels in your crown - not because of the riches but because your overwhelming love for the Lord was poured out to many. We pray you have peace and minimal pain. We pray you realize how deeply you are loved. We pray for that sweet moment when Jesus takes you into his arms, holds you tight, and tells you “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” We will see you soon!
ReplyDeleteLove, Ru and Steve
You are such a blessing to so many. God is calling you now to a life pain free and happiness. I have learned so much from you in a few short years but will continue praying for you and Cindy. This is very difficult to hear but please know how much you are loved!!
ReplyDelete🙏🏼💔🙏🏼
God bless you my friend as you enter into glory. Your life mission has been glorious, honest and real. Hug Jesus for me. Your legacy will go on. You are a treasure, as is your wife, Cindy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a hard one. We love you and will be with you sooner or later.
ReplyDeleteLove, Jim & Anna
Much love to you, Cindy, and the kids. Thank you Dave for living a real life for me to see and follow. I know it wasn't perfect, but it didn't need to be. I, like so many others, have "learned and received and heard and seen in (you)" (Philippians 4:9) and we will practice these things so that the same God of peace will be with us in our time here.
ReplyDeleteDaniel and I will continue our friendship and I will continue to do what I can to support and strengthen the work of The Coffee Oasis and The Refuge.
I have always appreciated and respected you. What your family has given in order to serve so many continues to shape, challenge, and influence who I am and how I seek to influence others. You've been one of my real Bible Heroes:):) Thank you.

Dave - what a amazing journey you have been on as I have been honored to follow you on this blog. I also vividly remember you pouring out your heart & vision of dreams to have a deeper mission with the Basque in their country. God heard you & I know he will see it through in his power. As I know he is with you & your wife now. What a Man of God you have been on this earth! Godspeed! Love ya - Derrin Doty
ReplyDeleteThank you for your transparency. You have so blessed hundreds or thousands of individuals, but you have blessed and been an amazing witness to your larger community. You have been a man of God and integrity. Thank you for rising above the smallness of people and being the example of Christ for so many. Much love to you and Cindy and your family.
ReplyDeleteI have followed you Dave on your journey with cancer in the past two years and I am speechless of what to say here. I feel sad for your family as they will miss you so much and to take farewell of you but I also feel Joy for you as you enter into another " Place" with Jesus and all your quelstions will be answered and you will find Peace. Iam thankful for what I learned from you when I attended Refuge church; you really gave me that sparkle of light to start to understand more deeply about the bible and Jesus and I always left your sermons fullfilled and hopefull, something I had not experienced in other churches I have attended. Again, Thank you! You will be SO very missed by So so many. Blessings to you and your family and Dear friends. 🙏🌹🌠🌈✝💜Anna

ReplyDeleteDave, it brings me so much sorrow to hear the difficult journey you are going through. You have touched so many lives, including mine when you were pastoring the Refuge. I hope that you are proud and confident--of what you've accomplished and will accomplish, who you are, and how Christ is pleased with you--because you deserve to be. Josiah Wai
ReplyDeleteGo with God, Dave. You have fought the good fight and have impacted so many lives. You will be so very missed.
ReplyDeleteDave, I thank the Lord for you. You were an encouragement and example of godliness before I believed in Jesus. I'm sure you and your dad and family had quite a time tolerating us Hageman brothers, but finally the Lord prevailed upon us. Thank you for being a friend, a pastor, a missionary, compassionate to the youth, and your contagious smile and laughter! We'll all rejoice with you very soon in glorious Heaven. Thank you for loving Jesus and loving me. Cory
ReplyDeleteYou are an amazing man of God Dave and yours and Cindy’s legacy for youth will be carried on my Daniel and others that share your love of Jesus Christ and the love he has for everyone including our youth! God bless you and keep you, may he shine his face upon you and give you peace. Dave, I am blessed to have met you and Cindy. My prayers are with you and your family. 💜🙏🏻
ReplyDeleteYou befriended Gary, Cory and me before we were saved. Then after salvation, you contributed to my growth in Christ as I watched your life. You have been a faithful friend and an unwavering example and inspiration even before marrying Cindy. Praise the Lord for a life well lived. I'm looking forward to spending more time with you in heaven. Love, Bruce and Becky
ReplyDeleteDave,
ReplyDeleteWe don't know you like many of the MCC folks do, but we have been blessed by your ministry presentations and your faithful leadership at Coffee O. You, your wife, and your family are in our prayers as you go to meet our Saviour. Well done, well done.
